The Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL) and AIIMS Bibinagar (Telangana) have collaborated to develop India’s first cost-effective and advanced carbon fibre foot prosthesis.
Named ADIDOC, the indigenously developed prosthesis has been rigorously biomechanically tested to withstand loads up to 125 kg with a substantial factor of safety. It is expected to significantly reduce costs to less than ₹20,000 in production, in contrast to around ₹2 lakh price tag on imported ones. It will be available in three variants to accommodate patients of different weights, ensuring a tailored fit and optimal performance.
The ADIDOC prosthesis was officially launched by Distinguished Scientist & Director, DRDL, Dr. G.A. Srinivasa Murthy, and Executive Director, AIIMS Bibinagar, Dr. Ahanthem Santa Singh.
By reducing dependency on imported technologies, the ADIDOC prosthesis also bolsters India’s self-reliance in medical devices and promotes broader social and economic inclusion for individuals with disabilities.
