Dr Nisar Mir appointed as Registrar CUK

Srinagar, Aug 5: Former Registrar of the Kashmir University, Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir, has been appointed as the new Registrar of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK), Ganderbal.

Mir is currently serving as Director Convocation Complex at the University of Kashmir (KU). The appointment has been made by the Executive Council of the CUK through proper advertisement and selection for the post.

The appointment comes as the incumbent Registrar CUK, Prof Afzal Zargar completes his second tenure as Registrar of the University.

Prof Mohammad Afzal Zargar was reappointed as the Registrar of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) for five years in 2020 for the second time.

Earlier, Prof Zargar joined as second Registrar of the CUK in September 2013.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed Registrar CUK, Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir is expected to assume charge in the first week of August. His appointment has been made for a period of five years or till he attains 62 years of age, “whichever is earlier.”

Dr. Mir is a seasoned academic administrator with a Ph.D. in Sociology and has an immense experience in teaching, research, and academic governance.

He began his administrative career as Project Officer at State Resource Centre (SRC) at KU. Later, he was appointed as the first Deputy Registrar at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University where he served from 2005 to 2009.

Later he worked as Deputy Registrar from 2009–2010 and Joint Registrar from 2010–2014 at the University of Kashmir.

His leadership skills took him to New Delhi, where he served as Joint Secretary at the University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Human Resource Development from 2015 to 2017.

During his tenure at UGC, he contributed significantly to National-level academic initiatives particularly National Academic Depository and other excellence schemes. He also coordinated the PMSSS scheme for J&K as well.

In 2018 he was appointed as the Registrar of NIT Srinagar followed by his appointment as Registrar KU where he served from January 2019 to February 2024. He is currently serving as Director Convocation Complex, KU.

Throughout his career, Dr. Mir has been at the forefront of educational administration, policy implementation, development initiatives and academic reform.

He is member of several committees particularly Joint cadre recruitment rules committee UGC which frames recruitment rules for all universities at national level.
