Srinagar, Jan 18: A team of eight doctors from GMC Rajouri Saturday visited Badhaal village of Badhaal in Rajouri to prevent further deaths by carrying out medical examination of surviving members of the families that lost members mysteriously in the past 45 days.
Speaking to a media outlet, GMC Rajouri Principal Dr. Amarjeet Singh Bhatia said patients from the victim families who died in various hospitals were received late and most of them could not be saved as they were already in critical condition. Notably, three families in the village have lost 16 family members in the past 45 days in the village. To prevent further deaths, the team took precautionary measures and collected samples from the surviving family members and carried out medical examinations. The reports are expected to be ready within two days, Dr Bhatia said.
Meanwhile, autopsy reports from the deceased will be provided by GMC Jammu to the investigating officers, as this is a medico-legal case, he added. Preliminary findings suggest that the deaths were caused by neurotoxins, which affect the brain and can stop breathing and heart function. The best toxicology labs in India are currently investigating the nature of these toxins, Dr Bhatia said.
The deaths have sparked concern among the local population, with symptoms including fever, nausea, loss of consciousness and subsequent coma. A Special Investigation Team of 11 members from J&K is also investigating.
