Jammu, Feb 13: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary Thursday said that the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha should direct the police to take stringent action to check increase in drug peddling and spiraling crime graph in Jammu.
He was responding to media queries after an official meeting conducted to review development works and other issues in Jammu district.
“Yes, ban on liquor, as demanded by some, can be considered yet before that the LG Sahib, under whom the police operate, should direct them (police) to take action to check drug menace and rising crimes in Jammu. DGP should give directions to the police officials to look into this disturbing aspect as to how chitta and other narcotics were reaching people, mainly our youth,” he said, when asked about his take on demand by a few MLAs to ban liquor in Jammu & Kashmir.
“Rising crimes, thefts and murders in Jammu are other serious matters of concern. Police should take stringent action to check that to provide a sense of security among the citizens. As far as ban on liquor is concerned that too can be considered later but immediate matters of concern are drug menace and rising crime graph. As the Lieutenant Governor is holding security review meetings he should focus on these issues and give desired directions to police,” Deputy Chief Minister said.
He stated that during the review meeting, issues of Jammu viz., roads, power, water, besides other development works were deliberated. “Several issues of concern, lingering on for the past six years, were brought to the notice of the elected government. These issues would be placed before the Chief Minister and they will be appropriately addressed,” he assured.
