Zaira Wasim, who first rose to fame with Aamir Khan’s 2016 blockbuster Dangal, surprised fans on Friday night by announcing her wedding on Instagram. The 24-year-old former actor shared the news, years after stepping away from the limelight and retiring from films at the age of 18. Zaira posted two photographs on her Instagram feed, captioned simply: “Qubool Hai x 3.”

The images, which did not reveal the couple’s faces, showed the duo signing the wedding registry and posing with their backs to the camera. Zaira didn’t disclose the identity of her husband.

For her big day, Zaira chose a striking red bridal outfit adorned with intricate golden embroidery.

Zaira made her acting debut at 16 with Dangal, a film that became one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of all time. Her powerful performance earned her critical acclaim and a National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. She followed up with another success in Secret Superstar (2017), which grossed over Rs 900 crore worldwide, further cementing her place as one of Bollywood’s most promising young talents.

However, in 2019, ahead of the release of her third and final film The Sky Is Pink, Zaira made headlines as she decided to step away from acting. She shared a note on Instagram explaining her reasons, “Five years ago, I made a decision that changed my life forever. As I stepped into Bollywood, it opened doors of massive popularity for me. I became a prime candidate for public attention and was projected as a role model for youth — something I never set out to become.”

In the same post, she cited her faith as a driving force behind her decision to quit: “While I continued to work in an environment that consistently interfered with my imaan, my relationship with my religion was threatened.”

Since then, Zaira has maintained a low profile, occasionally sharing reflections but largely staying away from the public eye — until now.
