New Delhi, Dec 14: National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament (MP) Mian Altaf Ahmad today said that Congress apologised for emergency but BJP is silent on its actions.
He criticised BJP for bifurcating the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories and called it unjustified.
Participating in a debate in Lok Sabha on 75 years of the adoption of the Constitution, Mian Altaf Ahmad said, “Congress has apologised for the emergency and whatever happened in 1975, but you are silent on various things you have done and without any justification. Congress toppled elected governments, but you divided our state into two Union Territories, which was unjustified.”
He said that those who formed this Constitution had done a great service and “we should always remember them particularly Dr B R Ambedkar and every one should unitedly maintain the secular and democratic values and with our country can move forward and develop.”.
The NC Member of Parliament said that “we all should uphold secular and democratic values of the country. “The India is famous for secularism, democracy, and the those who are in government should run the country on those lines,” he added. Mian Altaf said that whatever is happening with the minorities is a matter of concern. He mentioned about the incident in Uttar Pradesh and urged the central and state governments to take measures and ensure every citizen of the country feels safe and lives without fear or intimidation. Mian Altaf said that so many things are said about SCs and STs that they get a lot of benefits and privileges but that is not a fact and since decades these people have not received what is being talked about them.
