Cong-NC ties not off the cuff alliance: Karra

Jammu, Feb 21: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra Friday, while reiterating that there was no tiff with the National Conference, stated that their (Congress, NC) alliance was not an off-the-cuff alliance.

He was responding to media queries after addressing the party workers’ convention “Hamari Riyasat, Hamara Haq” in Reasi.

“See, the election time was different and the alliance at this moment is quite different. Our alliance is not an off-the-cuff alliance. This alliance was stitched at the national level with the major objective and keeping in view bigger parameters. In continuation of that, we formed an alliance in J&K also with the major objective of keeping BJP away from the corridors of power,” Karra said.

He said that the alliance successfully achieved that objective.

“But the points being raised by the media to speculate tiff between Congress and NC as the former (Congress) was raising people’s issues, were not based on facts. If we raise people’s issues, it does not mean that we are in the opposition. In the Legislative Assembly, even NC members will raise people’s issues, which remain unresolved, that does not mean that they are going against their party. Assembly means a forum where MLAs represent people. It (raising people’s issues) will be done by the MLAs of NC, Congress as well as BJP in true spirit of democracy. It should not be read otherwise,” JKPCC president said, while asserting that there was no split between Congress and NC.
