Chandrababu Naidu richest CM with assets worth over ₹931 cr; know what Telangana CM tops in?, ET Government

NEW DELHI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is the richest chief minister in India with assets worth over ₹931 crore, while West Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee is the poorest with just ₹15 lakh, according to an Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) report released on Monday.

The report said Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has the highest number of criminal cases filed against him.

The report said the average asset per chief minister from state assemblies and union territories is ₹52.59 crore. While India’s per capita net national income or NNI was approximately ₹1,85,854 for 2023-2024, the average self-income of a chief minister is ₹13,64,310, around 7.3 times the average per capita income of India.

The total assets of 31 chief ministers are worth ₹1,630 crore.

Arunachal Pradesh’s Pema Khandu is the second richest chief minister with total assets worth over ₹332 crore, Karnataka’s Siddaramaiah is the third on the list with assets worth more than ₹51 crore.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, with assets worth ₹55 lakh, is the second poorest in the list and Pinarayi Vijayan is third with ₹118 crore.

Khandu also has the highest liabilities to the tune of ₹180 crore. Siddaramaiah has liabilities worth ₹23 crore and Naidu more than ₹10 crore, the report said.

It also said 13 (42 percent) chief ministers have declared criminal cases against themselves, while 10 (32 percent) have declared serious criminal cases including those related to attempt to murder, kidnapping, bribery, and criminal intimidation. Out of the 31 chief ministers, only two are women – West Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee and Delhi’s Atishi.

Telangana CMRevanth Reddy is facing 34 charges related to criminal intimidation (IPC Section-506), 22 charges related to Section 505(2) (IPC Section-505(2)), and three charges related to statements conducive to public mischief (IPC Section-505). Two charges pertain to cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property (IPC Section 420). One charge pertains to the falsification of accounts, as outlined in IPC Section 477A. There is one charge under IPC Section 295A, which pertains to deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting their religion or religious beliefs, says the report.Additionally, there are 38 charges under IPC Section 504, which are related to intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of peace. 20 charges related to wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause a riot if rioting is committed, if not committed (IPC Section 153) 17 charges related to disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant (IPC Section 188) 12 charges related to disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant (IPC Section 188) 12 charges related to acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention (IPC Section 34) 12 charges related to punishment for wrongful restraint (IPC Section 341).

Following Revanth Reddy, MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has the highest number of cases, totaling 47, and the highest number of serious IPC cases, 11, it added.
