Srinagar, Feb 10: Scores of casual labourers from various government departments staged a protest at Press Enclave to demand the regularisation of their services.
However, Police swung into action and bundled many protestors into vehicles, foiling their protest.
“We have been suffering in the absence of regularisation and salaries for years now. This is the time for the government to wake up to resolve our issues. No one wants to hit the streets on a daily basis but we have no option when we are not able to make ends meet and feed our families,” a casual labourer said.
Last month, the casual labourers of the J&K Wildlife Department held a protest demanding regularisation. During the protest, the aggrieved assembled outside the residence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar and raised slogans in favour of their demands.
