The Bureau of Indian Standards, Rajasthan’s “Manak Mahotsav” was held in Jaipur on October 14, 2024, to commemorate World Standards Day 2024. The event focused on “Shared Vision for a Better World: SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure)” – building robust infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and encouraging innovation.

The inaugural ceremony featured esteemed guests, including Prof. Sudhir Kumar Barai (Director, BITS Pilani), Kanika Kalia (Director and Head, Bureau of Indian Standards, Rajasthan), Amit Kakkar (Chief Engineer, DOITC, Govt. of Rajasthan, Suresh Agarwal (Chairman, Federation of Rajasthan Trade and Industry), and Dr. Anant Sharma (Chairman, CCI and CANS).

In his inaugural address, Sudhir Kumar Barai, appreciated the continuous efforts of the Bureau of Indian Standards for standardization in this upcoming area. He said that we should be proud of our national standards which make our lives simple and safe.

Kanika Kalia, while highlighting the objectives of the event, said that in today’s times, BIS plays a vital role in advancing Sustainable Development Goal 9 (SDG 9)—by developing and promoting standards that encourage sustainable industrial development, foster innovation, and support robust infrastructure. BIS standards in sectors such as construction, manufacturing, and energy ensure that industries adopt sustainable practices, enhance productivity, and create safe, sustainable infrastructure.

She further said that the main objective of organizing this “Manak Mahotsav” was to promote the importance of standardization and quality among all stakeholders so as to draw more attention towards the role of standards in making our daily life simple.

In his remarks Amit Kakkar, Chief Engineer, DOITC, Government of Rajasthan, about efforts of Govt of Rajasthan in the field of incubation of new startups and the role that standards can play in developing a robust industrial ecosystem in the state. While appreciating the role of standards in managing the negative impact of AI he also highlighted the role of AI in the field of Civil Engineering.

Suresh Agarwal, highlighted the importance of Artificial Intelligence in Industries and pledged support of FORTI in taking the cause of national standardization.

Dr. Anant Sharma, emphasized the need for awareness among consumers regarding standards in the field of AI and appreciated the important role of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in national standardization.

During the event, Government Higher Secondary School, Banskhoh, Jaipur gave the message of being aware of quality products through a Nukkad Natak by the students of BIS Standard Club.

On this occasion, participants from Bureau of Indian Standards, JK Tyre, Nimbus Pipes, Dr. B Lal Institute of Technology, Jaipur also gave their technical presentations on the important role of standards in achieving the goals of SDG-9. A yoga session was also organized by the National Institute of Ayurveda during the event.

In this occasion, 112 participants including government officials, standard club mentors, resource persons, consumer organizations and BIS license holders etc. were also honored for their outstanding contribution in standardization and quality promotion.

More than 250 stakeholders including leading industrialists, BIS licensees, representatives of industry associations, BIS partner laboratories, consumer organizations, mentors and members of BIS Standards Club, etc., participated in the celebrations. A Quality Pledge was also administered to the attendees to seek their commitment towards quality and standardization.
