NEW DELHI: The 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum concluded in Brasília with a strong call for collective action on global challenges, including terrorism, responsible deployment of artificial intelligence (AI), and enhanced economic cooperation among member nations. In a statement issued on Saturday, Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla expressed gratitude to the Parliament, Government, and people of Brazil for successfully hosting the summit.Highlighting the outcomes of the two-day forum, the Speaker noted that the BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—engaged in meaningful dialogue focused on strengthening parliamentary cooperation, ensuring AI transparency and accountability, and advancing inclusive economic growth.
The final declaration adopted by the forum included a strong condemnation of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, India, on April 22, 2025, and reiterated the collective commitment of BRICS countries to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism. The Speaker acknowledged the alignment with India’s position and the Prime Minister’s global call for zero tolerance towards terrorism.
Deliberations at the summit also addressed the evolving landscape of Artificial Intelligence. Member nations agreed on the essential role of AI in development but underscored the need for ethical, transparent, and accountable use of the technology.
On the economic front, the forum stressed the importance of economic inclusion, trade enhancement, and deeper intra-BRICS cooperation. The Speaker reaffirmed India’s commitment to the rule of law, multilateral dialogue, and global cooperation.
Looking ahead, the Speaker announced that India will host the next BRICS Parliamentary Forum, where discussions will continue on issues of economic policy, social inclusion, trade, AI governance, and parliamentary exchange. India pledged to ensure a productive and impactful summit in collaboration with BRICS partners.
