At least 35 Union Pacific train cars derail near Texas town, no injuries reported | World News


At least 35 cars of a Union Pacific train derailed in Gordon, a small town near Texas in the United States on Tuesday afternoon, officials said. The derailment occurred in Palo Pinto County, reports stated.

According to Union Pacific spokeswoman Robynn Tysver, no injuries have been reported in the train car derailment and no evacuations have also been ordered following the derailment in the afternoon, AP reported.

Footage showed multiple train cars piled up on each other after the derailment on the railroad track which is located in a rural area in Texas. Raising concern for the emergency responders, a grass fire and smoke was visible beside the derailment site.

The derailment of about 35 train cars occurred at 2pm on Tuesday in the town of Gordon, officials said. Gordon is located about 105 kilometers southwest of Fort Worth.

According to a Facebook post by Palo Pinto County Emergency Services District 1, none of the train cars were leaking their contents and hence, it was confirmed that there weren’t any sort of hazardous material leaks.

The emergency services, in a statement said, “All personnel have been accounted for, and no injuries have been reported. The situation is currently stable, but not yet fully controlled.”

The statement by Palo Pinto County Emergency Services added, “Fire officials are actively working to contain and extinguish them, and no structures are currently threatened.”

The Palo Pinto Fire Department personnel were working on ground to douse the grass fire, while the Union Pacific crews were enroute, Union Pacific spokeswoman Tysver said.

The emergency services urged the residents to avoid the area to allow emergency crews clear access. It added that the situation is currently stable, but not yet fully controlled. The services said the grass fire, which was triggered after the derailment, is being contained by fire personnel, and no structures are currently threatened.
