AP HC stays ₹1334 cr demand against Jaiprakash Power in sand mining case, ET LegalWorld

The High Court of Andhra Pradesh has stayed the order demanding around ₹1334 crores from the Authority against Jaiprakash Power Ventures Limited in a case related to the alleged illegal extraction, storage, transportation, and selling of sand in the State of Andhra Pradesh.

The court has allowed the writ petition on the grounds that the action of the Department of Mines & Geology Offices was beyond its jurisdiction and or over-reach of its authority.

“It is important to note that since all the contracts were sub-contracted on a back-to-back basis (in due knowledge of DMG, Government of Andhra Pradesh) and the subcontractor was/is responsible/liable under the contracts,” Jaiprakash Power Ventures said in an exchange filing.

Developments pertaining to sand mining contracts are regularly reported by the Company in the notes along with its quarterly results.
