According to officials, the encounter erupted in the Beeranthub area under Kandi Police Station when a team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) and terrorists in the area exchanged gunfire.

Following the initial exchange of fire on Tuesday evening at around 7 pm, officials said, reinforcements from the Army, Police, and CRPF were immediately rushed to the spot.

The entire area was swiftly cordoned off, and extensive search operations were launched to trace the hiding terrorists.

Key locations, including Mandir Gala, Beeranthub, Panjnara, and Sakri, have been sealed off as security forces intensified their combing operations for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.

Officials said that aerial surveillance was also being employed to assist ground teams in locating the terrorists.

Senior Army and Police officers are camping at the site and closely monitoring the ongoing operation.

The Beeranthub area, located on the upper reaches near the Pir Panjal mountain range, is surrounded by dense forests, posing a major challenge for the forces engaged in the search.
