ASI R.V. Satyanarayana with the boy before handing him over to his mother, at the Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada on Sunday. Temple Chairman Borra Radhakrishna and Executive Officer Seena Nayak are seen.

A four-year-old boy, who went missing at the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri here on Sunday, was reunited with his mother, thanks to the timely intervention of Assistant Sub-Inspector R.V. Satyanarayana, who works in the Chief Minister’s Office Fire Department.

Mr. Satyanarayana rescued the child from a suspected kidnapper, and handed him over to his mother in the presence of the temple and police officials.

According to the temple officials, Lavanya, a resident of Jaggayyapeta, visited the temple along with her four-year-old son Shashi Vajra Aarush for darshan of the Goddess. After darshan, while they were on the seventh floor of the temple complex, the boy got separated from his mother.

Ms. Lavanya searched for Aarush frantically for nearly three hours, but could not find him and broke down in tears.

Meanwhile, Mr. Satyanarayana, too, visited the temple for darshan. While proceeding towards the lift area, he noticed a man taking a weeping child.

Sensing something suspicious, he intervened and took custody of the child, and immediately reported the matter to the temple’s Executive Officer Seena Nayak and Chairman Borra Radhakrishna.

The officials promptly traced Ms. Lavanya and reunited Aarush with her. Both the officials lauded Mr. Satyanarayana for his presence of mind and timely action.

Temple authorities urged the devotees to remain vigilant and keep a close watch on their children, especially during festival days, a press release said.
