After HC order, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren appears in court over ED summons in land ‘scam’ case | India News

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren appeared before the MP-MLA court in Ranchi on Saturday for allegedly not complying with Enforcement Directorate summons.

The ED had approached the court after Soren allegedly failed to appear for questioning despite multiple notices issued to him in connection with an alleged land scam.

According to Soren’s lawyer, the Chief Minister furnished two bail bonds of Rs 7,000. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for December 12.

“The Chief Minister appeared before the MP-MLA court today in compliance with the Jharkhand High Court’s directions. He will no longer be required to appear in person,” he said, adding that in the next hearing on December 12, Soren’s counsel will represent him before the court.

The ED had earlier submitted that Soren did not appear for questioning in response to notices issued in the alleged land scam case.

In the proceedings that followed, the Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday granted relief to Soren by exempting him from personally appearing before the MP-MLA court in the ED-filed case linked to the alleged land scam.

However, the high court also recorded Soren’s undertaking to appear before the MP-MLA court on December 6. Soren had challenged the lower court’s order directing his personal appearance.
