Kerala local body polls 2025: State Election Commission launches action on pamphlets highlighting Sabarimala issue

The State Election Commission (SEC) on Saturday initiated action against pamphlets highlighting the Sabarimala issue circulated as part of the election campaigns in the State. The Commission’s action came on a complaint filed by Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretary M.V. Govindan, who alleged that the pamphlets were being circulated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)

The SEC found that the contents of the pamphlets were in violation of Section 124 of the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act and Section 148 of the Kerala Municipalities Act. District Collectors have been directed to destroy the pamphlets, if found, and initiate appropriate action, the Commission said. Mr. Govindan had submitted the pamphlets along with his complaint.
