Ramban, Oct 25: Udhampur Police has attached movable property worth Rs 12 lakhs belonging to a ‘habitual’ bovine smuggler under the provisions of the new criminal laws on
As per the officials, with this latest action, the cumulative worth of attached vehicles in such cases has now reached Rs 74 lakhs.
Police said, acting on the directions of the Hon’ble Court of Additional Special Mobile Magistrate, Udhampur, police attached a Mahindra Bolero Pick-Up (Registration No. JK02CL–7472) belonging to Mohd Rasheed Chohan, son of Mohd Shafi Chohan, resident of Hangipora, Anantnag, presently residing at Chapar Dansal, District Jammu.
The vehicle was found to be involved in FIR No. 163/2025 registered under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Rehambal Police Station and was attached under Section 107(5) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
During the investigation, the investigating officer conducted a thorough inquiry into the criminal and financial background of the accused.
The inquiry revealed that the attached vehicle had been purchased using illegally acquired money.
Consequently, it was identified as proceeds of crime and attached under the relevant provisions of law.
This is the sixth vehicle attached by Udhampur Police in similar cases of bovine smuggling, with the total cumulative value of attached vehicles reaching Rs 74 lakhs.
