New Delhi: Six assembly constituencies in Bihar have reported a decline in women voters from the draft electoral roll to the final electoral roll, as per the Election Commission’s data presented before the Supreme Court. Incidentally, five of the six constituencies are in Seemanchal and Champaran regions.
Sikta assembly constituency in West Champaran witnessed the maximum decline between the two voter rolls. In Sikta, there is a decline of 3,095 women voters. Katihar assembly constituency in Seemanchal recorded a decline of 2,175 women voters between the two rolls.
The other four assembly constituencies recorded a decline of less than 400 women voters. The decline in women voters in Bagha is 373, followed by Sonepur in Saran at 337 and Nirmali in Supaul district at 331. Purnia assembly constituency in Seemanchal recorded the lowest women voter decline among all six with 328.
The EC didn’t provide gender specific data of voters who were dead, had shifted and repeated. However, it has provided assembly-wise data of total voters shifted, dead and repeated.
There are six districts where more than 10,000 voters have been deleted because they have shifted to another place.
In this list too, three districts of Seemanchal and West Champaran district tops the list along with Patna and Begusarai district.
The highest voter shift has been recorded in Purnia district with 17,128 voters shifted from the district to other places. Of this, Purnia town assembly seat recorded a shift of 13013 voters.
West Champaran district recorded the second-highest voter shift with 16,190 voters shifted to other places from the district. Sikta assembly constituency featured here too with the highest voter shift in the district. 5,882 voters shifted from Sikta to other places.
Katihar district, falling in Seemanchal region, recorded the third-highest voter shift of 14,545. Katihar assembly constituency in the district recorded the highest voter shift with 8,763 voters shifting to other places.
Patna also figured in the top three districts of voter shift. Patna has 14 assembly constituencies as compared to 6-8 constituencies in other districts. 14,462 voters shifted from Patna to other places and out of 14 constituencies, a maximum of 3,032 voters shifted from Digha assembly seat.
Begusarai district is between Mithilanchal and Central Bihar and here also 12,497 voters had shifted to other places.
Araria in Seemanchal was among the six constituencies to record more than 10,000 voter shifts with 10,361 voters shifting to other places. Of this, the highest of 4,085 voters shifted from Araria town assembly seat.
