MP Aga Ruhullah criticises Govt for ‘inaction on political front’

Srinagar, Oct 11: National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Saturday criticised the Omar Abdullah-led government, saying it had failed to take political initiatives during its first year in office.

Talking to reporters here, Ruhullah said the government had not fulfilled the political expectations of the people.

“The government has not done on the political front what should have been done over the last year,” Ruhullah said. “If people are happy, I am happy. But if they are not, then their voices should be heard.”

He said the intent and political will that should have been shown during the first year of the elected government were missing.

“One year is about to be completed by the elected government. On the political front, the intent that should have been there is not visible,” he said.

Ruhullah said that the government should focus on addressing people’s issues rather than trying to please individuals.

On the Budgam bypoll, Ruhullah said he would comment on the NC candidate once the official announcement was made.

“I will speak about the party candidate once the announcement is made. I have already conveyed to the party leadership what the people of Budgam want,” he said.

Ruhullah also urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather to revoke the Public Safety Act (PSA) slapped on Mehraj Malik so that he could attend the forthcoming Assembly session.

“I request the CM and the Speaker to take immediate steps to revoke the PSA slapped on Mehraj Malik so that he can attend the Assembly session,” Ruhullah said.

Taking a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he said the party had no intention of restoring the rights taken away from the people of J&K.

“BJP has no intention of returning the snatched rights of Kashmiris,” he said.
