Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump held a “very positive and productive” call on Saturday.

In a post on X, Zelenskyy said he congratulated Trump on his Middle East deal, calling it “an outstanding achievement,” and added: “If a war can be stopped in one region, then surely other wars can be stopped as well—including the Russian war.”

Earlier, this week, Trump brokered the Gaza peace deal that has been accepted by Hamas and Israel.

Zelenskyy informed Trump about Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and welcomed the US President’s willingness to provide support. “We discussed opportunities to bolster our air defense, as well as concrete agreements that we are working on to ensure this. There are good options and solid ideas on how to truly strengthen us,” he said.

He also stressed that Russia must be ready to engage in genuine diplomacy, which “can be achieved through strength.” Zelenskyy also thanked Trump for his support.

The call follows intensified Russian attacks in Ukraine. On Friday, Moscow targeted Ukraine’s power grid, triggering widespread blackouts, though electricity was restored on Saturday for more than 800,000 Kyiv residents.

Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko called the assault “one of the largest concentrated strikes” on the country’s energy infrastructure, according to an AP report.

The Russian Defence Ministry confirmed that Kinzhal hypersonic missiles and strike drones were deployed against Ukraine’s power facilities.
