New Delhi, Aug 11: Five Al Jazeera journalists were among seven people killed in an Israeli airstrike near the main gate of Gaza City’s Al-Shifa Hospital, international media, including Al Jazeera, reported and confirmed.
Correspondents Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qurayqa, along with cameramen Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal and Moamen Aliwa, were in a tent used by journalists when it was hit. Al Jazeera called the incident a “blatant and premeditated attack on press freedom.”
International reporters remain largely barred from Gaza, leaving media outlets reliant on local journalists for coverage. Al-Sharif, 28, had extensively reported from northern Gaza.
In his final social media post, Al Jazeera said, he described “intense, concentrated bombardment” on Gaza City shortly before his death.
