Jammu, Aug 4: The Jammu Railway Division is set to issue an official notification soon for a new goods shed at Anantnag Railway Station, a move expected to significantly boost the Food Corporation of India’s (FCI) logistical operations in the Kashmir Valley by reducing transportation costs and transit delays in food grain movement.
This was stated by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM), Jammu Railway Division, Uchit Singhal, in a coordination meeting between Railways and Food Corporation of India (FCI) held on Monday (August 4, 2025).
The meeting held in the office of Senior DCM, Jammu Railway Division, was attended by Chatru Naik, General Manager, FCI Jammu and Kashmir region, and Jagan, Assistant General Manager, FCI Jammu and Kashmir. During the interaction, several important issues related to freight movement were discussed in detail.
Singhal gave detailed information to the General Manager FCI about the upcoming Goods Shed to be constructed at Anantnag Railway Station.
“Its official notification is expected to be issued very soon. This new facility will provide a significant advantage to FCI for transporting food grains through rail in the Valley, leading to significant reduction in both transportation cost and possible transit delays,” Singhal said.
Additionally, they also discussed strategies to increase traffic at FCI Jammu siding and ensure efficient and timely handling of all rakes.
