Rajasthan has been recognized with two national-level awards for its initiatives in the field of organ donation during the 15th Indian Organ Donation Day held at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi, according to an official statement.
The event was organised by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO), under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Union Health Minister JP Nadda presented the awards to Rajasthan in two categories: “Excellence in Promotion of Organ Donation” and “Emerging State in Organ Donation.”
Representing Rajasthan, Dr Giridhar Goyal, Additional Superintendent of SMS Hospital, Jaipur, and Convener of the State Authorisation Committee, accepted the awards along with his team.
The state was honoured for its efforts in conducting awareness campaigns and encouraging public participation in organ donation. These campaigns have been led by the state’s Health Department in coordination with various institutions and departments.
During the ceremony, the family of the late Sumitra Devi, a 43-year-old resident of Alwar district, was also acknowledged for consenting to organ donation. Their decision contributed to saving lives and was considered an example of public cooperation in the organ donation movement.
Officials noted that the awards are based on measurable activities carried out by the state to increase public awareness about organ donation, promote registrations, and facilitate coordination among health institutions.
In addition to the awards, Rajasthan has also achieved the highest number of digital organ donation pledges across the country. As of August 1, 2025, the state has recorded a total of 69,523 digital pledges. On a single day—July 31, 2025—Rajasthan registered 8,226 digital organ donation pledges, marking the highest one-day count in the country.
The state’s performance is being tracked through the national database maintained by NOTTO, and Rajasthan’s numbers reflect increasing participation and awareness at the community level.
These recognitions come at a time when the central government is emphasizing the need to improve organ donation systems and bridge the gap between donors and recipients. Rajasthan’s continued progress in this area places it among the leading states in terms of outreach and engagement.
The event in New Delhi was attended by officials from across the country, health professionals, and families of donors who have contributed to the organ donation program.
