All terrorists will be neutralised, operations on: DGP

Jammu, Jul 16: Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat Wednesday asserted that anti-terrorist operations were going on in an unrelenting manner, and all terrorists active in the region would be neutralised.

“You all know that operations are being conducted without pause. In the recent such operation at Dudu-Basantgarh, we achieved a big success as we were able to neutralise the seniormost and topmost Jaish commander. He had been active in the area for the last four years,” DGP said, while responding to a media query about the latest status of anti-terrorist operations.

The top cop of J&K was interacting with the media during his visit to the Police Station Akhnoor, to present it “Certificate of Excellence” for being adjudged “Best Police Station of J&K by the MHA.” Though he did not give the exact number of terrorists active in the region stating that numbers could not be disclosed or shared in the public domain yet stated, “Operations are being conducted in an unrelenting manner. Rest assured, they will be neutralised one by one.”

With regard to queries about Akhnoor Police Station for being adjudged “Best Police Station of J&K” by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), he said, “I believe that all the people of Akhnoor need to be greeted first as it (Police Station) belongs to them; it is serving them.”

Police Station Akhnoor has been judged as the Best Police Station of Jammu and Kashmir for the year 2024 by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India.

“Award to this Police Station manifests that all the officials and officers here share cordial ties with the public. DIG Sahib, just moments ago, stated the excellent relationship (of Police officers and officials of Akhnoor Police Station) with the public could be gauged with a simple fact that in the recent (anti-terrorist) operation, the clue about hiding terrorists was shared by people only,” DGP said.

He assured that a proposal vis-a-vis recruitment of local youth would be moved. Earlier DGP visited Police Station Akhnoor and presented the “Certificate of Excellence” to the dedicated team. He was accompanied by IGP Jammu zone, B S Tuti; IGP CRPF Jammu, Gopala K Rao, DIG JSK Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma; DC Jammu Sachin Vaishya, and SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh. MLA Akhnoor, Lal Bhagat also graced the occasion as a special guest.

The event was attended by senior officers from the Army, BSF, CRPF, intelligence agencies, civil administration, along with Zonal SPs of Jammu, all SDPOs of District Jammu, and SHOs of the Rural Zone. This prestigious recognition forms part of a nationwide initiative by the Police Modernisation Division of MHA, supported by the TransRural research agency.

A total of 17,932 police stations across India were evaluated, out of which 76 were shortlisted based on stringent performance criteria.

Police Station Akhnoor secured its place among the top-performing stations in the country. The initiative to recognize the best police stations was launched in 2015 by the Prime Minister of India during the DGP/IGP Conference held in Kutch, Gujarat. Since then, it has become a regular feature of the Ministry of Home Affairs, aimed at promoting excellence, innovation, and citizen-friendly policing across the nation.

Speaking on the occasion, DGP Nalin Prabhat congratulated the Jammu Police team for this significant achievement and encouraged all officers and personnel to continue striving for excellence in service to the public.

While presenting the award, the DGP lauded the exceptional performance of then SHO Tariq Ahmed, SDPO Mohan Sharma; SP Rural Brijesh Sharma and SSP Jammu Joginder Singh for their outstanding leadership and dedication in 2024. He also extended his best wishes to the present SHO Sanjeev Chib and SDPO Varinder Gupta for continuing the legacy of excellence. IGP Jammu zone B S Tuti, also congratulated the team of Police Station Akhnoor and urged them to maintain the same level of professionalism, commitment, and public service in the future.
