Rajouri, Jun 12: With no fresh case reported in last 48 hour, the total number of people who got infected with the problem of Gastroenteritis and Diarrhea stand at 59 as no patient is hospitalised presently. According to Chief Medical Officer Rajouri, Dr Manohar Lal Rana, the cases were reported starting June 3, and 16 people say admitted to GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri, while 43 people were treated in the area by a mobile team of doctors.
Contrary to media reports of a mysterious illness, Dr Rana clarified that the cases are purely of gastroenteritis and diarrhoea, with no mysterious illness involved.
He attributed the cause of the illness to contaminated water, which tested positive for E-coli bacteria.
The health officer stated that the people in the area have no access to the government’s water supply scheme and rely on natural wells and springs for drinking water. Recent rainfall contaminated these natural sources with faecal matter, leading to the illness, CMO stated. The health department has been working to treat the affected individuals, and efforts are being made to provide safe drinking water to the community, he added.
