NEW DELHI: The Puducherry Legislative Assembly is poised to become a fully digital, paperless legislative house with the rollout of the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) on June 9, 2025. The launch will be formally inaugurated by Dr L. Murugan, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting & Parliamentary Affairs.

The inauguration ceremony will be attended by Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, Speaker Selvam R, and other members of the Puducherry Legislative Assembly, marking a significant milestone in the Union Territory’s digital governance journey.

In preparation for the transition, the Puducherry Assembly conducted a successful trial run during its recently concluded 6th session of the 15th Assembly. Key documents such as the Lieutenant Governor’s address, Chief Minister’s budget speech, List of Business, and Member Question Replies were uploaded and accessed through NeVA. In addition, hands-on training for Members of the Legislative Assembly and officials from various government departments is currently underway to ensure a smooth transition to digital operations.

Once implemented, Puducherry will join the ranks of 18 legislative houses across India that have fully adopted the NeVA platform, aligning with the vision of ‘One Nation – One Application’.

About NeVA
The National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) is an ambitious initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs (MoPA) under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Approved by the Public Investment Board on January 15, 2020, with a budget of ₹673.94 crore, NeVA aims to digitize legislative processes across all 37 state and union territory legislatures.

The centrally sponsored scheme promotes uniformity, transparency, and efficiency, while significantly reducing paper consumption in legislative functioning. NeVA also integrates real-time AI/ML-based translation services in partnership with BHASHINI (MeitY) to promote linguistic inclusivity and accessibility across diverse regions.

So far, 28 State Legislatures have signed MoUs, and 18 have fully implemented NeVA, transforming themselves into Digital Legislatures. With Puducherry now joining this digital revolution, the vision of a unified, transparent, and technologically advanced legislative ecosystem continues to gain momentum.
