BHUBANESWAR: Odisha has expanded its global footprint in agri-exports with the shipment of mangoes to France and Belgium, marking a major milestone in the state’s growing horticulture trade. This comes alongside a fresh consignment of mangoes dispatched to Dubai from the International Cargo Terminal in Bhubaneswar.
Facilitated by the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Government of Odisha, in collaboration with Palladium under the UK Government’s FCDO-funded Rural Transformation Project, the initiative has resulted in the export of nearly 100 metric tonnes (MT) of mangoes and other fruits to over seven international markets in the past year alone.
The mangoes – sourced from tribal and smallholder farmers across Koraput, Rayagada, and Mayurbhanj – are known for their organic cultivation and distinct taste. These exports reflect the success of Odisha’s value-chain-focused approach to farmer empowerment, including training, certification, aggregation, and direct market access, according to an official release.
Officials from the Department of Agriculture, Palladium, and agri-export agencies flagged off the latest consignment, reiterating Odisha’s commitment to connecting rural farmers with high-value global markets.
This achievement also aligns with India’s broader goal of enhancing agri-export volumes through improved infrastructure, cold chain logistics, and direct farmer participation in international trade.
