Hugh Jackman finally addressed rumours about his superhero character Wolverine’s appearance in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. For weeks, after Jackman didn’t show up in the first casting lineup of Marvel’s next big project set for 2026, fans have been floating theories, especially since multiple X-Men characters are set to join the superhero team to fight Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Marvel is yet to unveil the second casting lineup to complete the speculated 60-superhero roster. Jackman appeared on The View, spoke about his Broadway show, mentioned Ryan Reynolds, and finally failed to dodge the Doomsday question.

“I really can’t say much,” Jackman said with a poker face after the host, Sunny Hostin, asked him about the rumours, though she added, knowing she likely wouldn’t get an answer. “Except when you say ‘appear,’ more like dominate and destroy every other character—I’m kidding,” Jackman continued, sparking a wave of laughter among the audience, with the host quipping, “Okay, we know you’re tight-lipped about it.” Jackman replied, “I really have nothing to add, and if I did, I would find a really cool way to not say it, but I actually have nothing to add.”
Jackman is neither confirming nor denying his presence, but also sounds like he knows exactly what’s going on and just isn’t allowed to spill it. When it comes to big crossover projects like Avengers, NDAs strictly restrict the actors from even teasing what’s coming. Still, the chances of Jackman’s character (which first debuted in the 2000s X-Men), appearing in Doomsday seem slim, given that in 2017’s Logan, Wolverine dies. In the final sequence, the superhero succumbs to his weakened body after a brutal fight. But hopes are still up, because just last year Jackman reprised his character alongside Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool & Wolverine. The film introduced a new version of the character from the multiverse, also hinting that Deadpool made a trip to the future to rescue Wolverine. This gives Marvel a perfect loophole to bring back the character without disturbing the original timeline.
Marvel has already confirmed the appearance of multiple X-Men superheroes including Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler) etc. The 2026 movie will also unite the icons from Thunderbolts, Avengers, and the upcoming Fantastic Four. Doomsday is expected to bring in characters from across the multiverse to face off against Doctor Doom. Wolverine feels like a natural fit, but still, after Jackman’s cryptic response, some are convinced that he might skip the upcoming for the bigger union, that is, the Secret Wars.
A redditor chimed in, “I could see them holding him back for secret wars. They need to have something as a big pull and considering they’re throwing everything at doomsday, it makes sense to keep your last billion dollar movie stars for round 2.”

Another wrote, “He’s in it, and if he isn’t, then he’s in Secret Wars. Does anyone REALLY think they’d not have Wolverine, Deadpool, and X-23 in this after they very specifically had them meet the TVA and kept them around all living in one house at the end of DPAW?” Another backed up, “My theory is that we get most of the OG X-Men here in Doomsday, save for Wolverine and Deadpool. Then, in Secret Wars, maybe we get the first class cast of X-Men and Deadpool and Wolverine before they reboot.”
Whether he is in or not, we will likely get confirmation closer to the film’s release, or maybe at San Diego Comic-Con. Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars have reportedly delayed their release dates. The movies have been pushed by seven months and will now be released on December 18, 2026, and December 17, 2027.
