On Tuesday, Meta introduced Edits, a video editing app similar to TikTok’s CapCut. Edits is a free app offering a variety of features and capabilities to turn concepts into Instagram Reels. It is available for both Android and iOS users.
Meta first announced the launch of Edits in January, when the United States of America announced a ban on TikTok and CapCut. While CapCut was never available in India, it was a popular video editing app among US users, and that ban could have created a void, one that Instagram planned to leverage. In a similar move, YouTube also recently introduced new video-editing capabilities for creators.
The Instagram Edits app allows users to capture footage using the phone’s camera and export their projects without any watermark.
The app offers precise control with features like clip-level precision, auto-enhance tools, and AI image animation. It also provides insights and inspirational content for creators to help them understand trends and create accordingly.
Unlike third-party video editing apps, Edits allows users to access music from Meta’s vast library. To use Edits – similar to Threads – a user needs an Instagram account. This also makes it easy to track performance and share edited content to Instagram with a single click.
Meta’s new creator tool aims to reduce the complexity of video editing by bringing everything under one roof. In the coming days, the app will gain more features such as keyframes, advanced modifications, and collaboration tools, with further enhancements expected in future releases.
According to a recent leak by an X user named Alessandro Paluzzi, Meta is also said to be working on a subscription for Edits, called Asteria, which will unlock more generative AI-specific features and capabilities.
