NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Jal Shakti has announced the completion of seven significant sewerage infrastructure projects under the Namami Gange Mission 2.0 during the latter half of FY 2024–25. These projects, located in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi, aim to prevent sewage from entering rivers, thereby improving water quality and rejuvenating river ecosystems.
The newly commissioned projects include:
A 47.70 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Farrukhabad, UP, costing ₹261 crore.
A 33 MLD STP in Ayodhya, UP, at ₹222 crore, enhancing the Saryu River’s cleanliness.
A 32.50 MLD STP in Muzaffarnagar, UP, costing ₹234 crore, benefiting the Kali West and Hindon rivers.
In Bihar, STPs have been established in Bakhtiyarpur (10 MLD, ₹85 crore), Fatuha (7 MLD, ₹35.49 crore), and Phulwari Sharif (6 MLD, ₹46 crore).
Delhi has seen the completion of Asia’s largest STP at Okhla with a capacity of 564 MLD, constructed at a cost of ₹666 crore, aimed at conserving the Yamuna River.
Collectively, these projects have added 732.2 MLD to the treatment capacity, bringing the total under the Namami Gange Program to 3,722 MLD across 157 STPs. The combined cost of these seven projects is ₹1,772 crore.
These developments mark significant progress in India’s efforts toward sustainable river rejuvenation and improved urban sanitation.
