Govt, big corporations among Rs 1410 Cr power defaulters

Jammu, Mar 13: The 100 top electricity bill defaulters owe staggering Rs 1410.45 crore to the Power Development Department (PDD) in J&K.

Living up to the traditions, the government and semi-government departments, entities and offices figure as major defaulters in this list, including PDD offices.

The information was shared by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the J&K Legislative Assembly in a written reply to independent MLA, Sheikh Khursheed on Thursday.

The top-10 major defaulters include Baba Jangi in Sumbal division owing Rs 63.78 crore; Chief Engineer Salal Hydroelectric, NHPC, with Rs 56.96 crore in sub-division Reasi; XEN PHE Sopore with Rs 45.84 crore in Sumbal division; Chief Engineer, J&K Minerals Limited with Rs 42.43 crore in subdivision Rajouri-II; Rajpora Lift Irrigation AWP Stage 1 and 2 owing Rs 39.83 crore in Awantipora; Chairman MC Streetlight with Rs 39.53 crore in subdivision Samba; M/S Surya Pharmaceuticals with Rs 35.83 crore in subdivision Samba; Jalaligund Tularzoo owing Rs 31.76 crore in Sumbal division; Shadipora 2nd with Rs 31.66 crore in Sumbal division and PHE Panjtoot which owed Rs 27.88 crore in subdivision Jourian.

The CM, who also holds charge of the PDD, said that so far 2,75,081 PDD consumers have registered under the ongoing amnesty scheme.

Of these, 1,60,507 consumers are from Jammu and 1,14,574 are from Kashmir.

Srinagar Municipal Corporation (Rs 16.82 crore); DIG Police Kashmir (Rs 16.21 crore); Camp Commandant Migrant Camp 03 (Rs 12.34 crore); SP Budgam for Police Lines (Rs 11.48 crore); CRPF Camp Pahalgam near Mamal (Rs 9.46 crore); Commandant CRPF 44 Bn (Rs 8.60 core); SSP Anantnag (Rs 8.56 crore); Chief Engineer BHEP (Rs 8.12 crore); Camp Commandant Migrant camp 02 (Rs 5.85  crore); Manager Hari Niwas Palace (Rs 4.87 crore); Camp Commandant Migrant Camp (Rs 4.63 crore); PHE Department in subdivision Kathua (Rs 4.25 crore) and Senior Superintendent of Police in subdivision Kishtwar (Rs 3.79 crore) are also among top 100 PDD bill defaulters.

In reply to the question of AIP legislator from Langate regarding the names of beneficiaries granted amnesty in J&K, the CM said that the information regarding the names of the beneficiaries, who were granted the amnesty was voluminous – about 10,000 pages.

“The information can be provided to the member separately if he desires so,” the CM replied.
