NEW DELHI: The e-Shram portal, launched by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in August 2021, has registered over 30.68 crore unorganised workers as of March 3, 2025, with women constituting a significant 53.68% of the total registrations. The portal, designed to provide unorganised workers with a Universal Account Number (UAN), aims to integrate them into various social security schemes.

Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment, Shobha Karandlaje, announced the latest figures in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Monday. She highlighted the government’s efforts to develop e-Shram into a “One-Stop-Solution” for unorganised workers, enabling seamless access to multiple welfare schemes through a single platform.

Currently, 13 central government schemes are integrated with e-Shram, including PM-SVANidhi, PMSBY, PMJJBY, MGNREGA, PMAY-G, AB-PMJAY, and PM-KMY. To enhance accessibility, the portal was upgraded in January 2025 with multilingual support in 22 Indian languages via the Bhashini platform. Additionally, a mobile application was launched on February 24, 2025, offering real-time access to welfare schemes and improving user convenience.

To boost registrations and awareness, the government is conducting SMS campaigns, leveraging social media, and collaborating with State Seva Kendras (SSKs) and Common Service Centres (CSCs) for assisted enrollment. e-Shram is also integrated with platforms like National Career Service (NCS), Skill India Digital Portal, and UMANG App, further expanding its reach among unorganised workers.

The government’s continued push for digitization and social security integration through e-Shram marks a significant step toward empowering millions of unorganised workers across India.
