State government is taking steps to protect traders’ interests: Rajeeve

The State government has brought the Goods and Services Tax-related (GST) issues faced by the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to the attention of the respective department, Industries Minister P. Rajeeve told the Assembly on Tuesday. Replying to a calling attention motion moved by Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLA K. Ansalan regarding the various issues faced by traders, he said that the government has been taking steps to protect the interests of the traders.

A separate division has been formed under the Industries department for commerce. Steps have also been taken to strengthen the Commerce Mission. The State’s Industrial Policy considers the MSMEs as a priority sector. The government has conducted two rounds of discussions with traders’ organisations to discuss various issues. Another meeting will be held with the involvement of representatives from banks. Helpdesks have been arranged in all districts for making the GST payment easier for traders.
