Jung S Verman’s ‘Do Kam Terah Kahaniyan’ released

Jammu, Mar 1: Hindi translation of short stories, titled ‘Do Kam Terah Kahaniyan’, written by well-known artist-writer-journalist Jang S Verman was released by Hindi Sahitya Mandal (HSM), Jammu in a function organized at K L Saigal auditorium, Writers’ Club, Jammu on Saturday.

The book was translated into Hindi by Saroj Bala, a prominent Hindi and Dogri writer of J&K.

Raj Kumar, well known Hindi writer, was the chief guest on this occasion whereas Purshotam, Associate Professor of Hindi Department of Jammu University was the special guest.

Chanchal Dogra, president of HSM, and writers Jang S Verman and Saroj Bala also shared the dais with the dignitaries at the event.

Besides the book release, Sonali Thakur was honoured with the first Shanti-Shaligram Post Graduate Hindi Mega Puraskar- 2024 during the programme for topping the Post Graduation Programme of the University of Jammu in Hindi. The award carried Rs 1100, a memento and a citation.

In her formal welcome address, Chanchal Dogra emphasised the activities of HSM and the award initiated by it (HSM) this year, for the promotion of the Hindi language.

She informed that the award was started by Chanchal Dev Raj Dogra and named after her mother-in-law (late) Shanti Shaligram. She emphasised the importance of the Hindi language as a means of promoting national integration.

In his address, Raj Kumar appreciated the fiction work contributed by Verman and his contribution in the fields of art, literature and cultural journalism. He also lauded the translation work done by Saroj Bala and complemented Verman for creating fiction work on the eventualities and situations prevailing in society, with universal appeal in its content.

“Verman’s short stories reflect ideas, human emotions and rich social values,” he said.

Purshotam appreciated the introduction of Shanti-Shaligram PG Hindi Mega Puraskar.

Earlier, Monto Dutta Sharma, acting secretary of HSM gave a brief resume of the programmes organized by Hindi Sahitya Mandal.
