Several college teachers protested in front of the Directorate of Collegiate Education here on Wednesday, demanding that they be provided benefits under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS).
The teachers gathered under the aegis of the Association of University Teachers (AUT) of Tamil Nadu, and condemned the “continuous partial treatment meted out to teachers from aided colleges” by denying monetary benefits of the CAS even as their counterparts in government colleges received such benefits with arrears.
Terming this highly objectionable, M.S. Bala Murugan, president, AUT, said: “In Tamil Nadu, colleges have only the post of assistant professor, and teachers get their career progression through the CAS to the supernumerary post of associate professor. The only promotional avenue for college teachers is the post of principal as the post of professor does not exist in colleges…” He further said that despite a government order in 2021, there was no relief yet.
