Water spring sealed after insecticide traces found

Rajouri, Jan 20: Authorities in Badhaal village of Rajouri district have sealed a water spring-cum-well (Bowli) located near the residence of Muhammad Rafiq, who lost four members of his family to unexplained disease under mysterious circumstances.

The natural water spring-cum-well has been barricaded with concertina wire, and police and central armed forces’ personnel have been deployed to ensure no one can use the water.

The decision to seal the well comes after water samples tested positive for traces of insecticide.

Additional District Magistrate, Kotranka Dil Mir termed the move a precautionary measure, stating that while the insecticide levels were minute and non-harmful, it was essential to take precautions.

“The insecticide traces in the water sample of the well are almost negligible and such an amount is mostly found in such water sources and even inside the human body,” ADM said.

“We are, however, dealing with a different situation in this village and every precautionary step is being taken and this is also one among them,” said ADM Kotranka.
