Sopore Dec 30: The Sopore Police has registered a total of 56 cases in the NDPS Act and arrested 88 drug peddlers during the year 2024.
Addressing media persons in Sopore, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sopore Divya Dev said besides registering 56 cases in NDPS Act and arresting 88 drug peddlers, Sopore Police seized drugs worth international market value of Rs 65 lacs. “Apart from this 20 notorious and hardcore drug peddlers were booked under PIT NDPS,” SP Sopore said.
She said that through a financial investigation, Sopore Police attached property of drug peddlers that included two residential houses and 10 marla of land.
“Some cultivators had cultivated poppy and bung. Sopore Police destructed 15 acres of land and registered an FIR in this regard as well.
SP Sopore Divya Dev said that to avoid pilferage of seized drugs, Sopore Police conducted a big drug destruction drive in 2024.
“The drug destruction drive was carried through the District Drug Destruction Committee after taking the permission of the competent court. We destructed drugs worth Rs 1.13 crores. The drugs included poppy straw, poppy powder, codeine phosphate bottles, and spasmo proxion capsules,” SP Sopore told reporters here.
She said that Sopore Police also conducted awareness programs throughout the year.
“In every school, college, and public place, Sopore police teams conducted awareness programs against drugs during Thana Diwas programs as well and created awareness among people about negative impact of substance abuse,” she said.
SP Sopore acknowledged the Public support and cooperation in eradicating me menace of drug abuse from the society.
“Because of their trust and cooperation with the Sopore police, all the investigations related to drugs were executed. We request people of Sopore, especially youths, to say No to drugs and Yes to life,” SP Sopore said.
She said that Sopore Police was committed to make Sopore drug-free town.
“We will continue our efforts in the upcoming year and expect same cooperation from the people. I request teachers, parents and civil society members to join us in our mission,” Divya Dev said.
