Srinagar, Dec 17: Former two-time Member of Parliament (MP ) Ladakh & Retired DIG Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan passed away on Tuesday at the age of 88.
He passed away at his residence in Bathandi Jammu.
Born on December 11, 1936 in Simloo village of, Batalik, in Kargil district of Ladakh, Khan retired as DIG from Jammu and Kashmir Police and later became a veteran political figure in Ladakh. Khan was elected to 13th and 15th Lok Sabha as a Member of Parliament from Ladakh in 1999 and 2009 respectively.
In 1999, Khan contested on National Conference ticket while in 2009 he fought as an independent candidate. Khan is remembered for his selfless services and work for the development of the Ladakh.
Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan is survived by his wife, son the former Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC Kargil and sitting Councilor Feroz Ahmed Khan and two daughters.
The demise of Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan has widely been condoled by various political, social and religious organisations. CEC LAHDC Kargil Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, former chairman of Legislative Council Haji Anayat Ali, social-political activist and member JUAIK Sajad Hussain Kargili have expressed grief over the death of Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan and prayed for departed soul.
