Rajouri, Dec 9: An Army man deployed on Line of Control (LoC) who was performing an area domination patrol was killed in an explosion at Thanedaar Tekri in Poonch district of Pir Panjal region.
The Army man has been identified as Havildar V Subbaiah Varikunt, who was serving in the Indian Army’s 25 Rashtriya Rifles.
The Army said that a team was performing an area domination patrol when the incident happened. However, the official sources said that the Army man was injured in an explosion along the Line of Control (LoC) believed to be a mine explosion.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid tributes to Havildar V Subbaiah Varikunta, who laid down his life in the line of duty.
“I salute the supreme sacrifice of our Army braveheart Havildar V Subbaiah Varikunta. His valour and sacrifice will never be forgotten. The entire nation stands firmly with the family of the martyr in this hour of grief,” the LG said.
Meanwhile, Army Commander of Northern Command, Lt Gen M V Suchindra Kumar and all ranks of Dhruva Command (Northern Command) saluted Havildar V Subbaiah Varikunta of the 25 RR. “Dhruva Command stands firm with the bereaved family in this hour of grief,” the Army said in a statement.
General Officer in Commanding White Knight Corps, Lt Gen Naveen Sachdeva and all ranks of Corps paid solemn tribute to Havildar V Subbaiah Varikunta.
“Our deepest condolences to the bereaved family. We stand steadfastly with them in this hour of grief,” a statement of the Army’s White Knight Corps said.
