Ramban, Dec 8: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic movement of Light Motor Vehicles (LLMVs) and heavy vehicles while the Kishtwar-Sinthan- Anantnag National Highway was closed following the accumulation of fresh snow on Sunday.
Traffic authorities said the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open but traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles and a single-lane road stretch at Dalwass, Mehar Cafeteria, and between Maroog and Kishtwar Pathar areas of Ramban.
They said despite the slow movement, hundreds of vehicles crossed the Chenani-Nashri and Banihal-Qazigund tunnels till late Sunday evening.
Senior Superintendent, Traffic Police, National Highway, Ramban, Rohit Baskotra told Greater Kashmir that traffic plied on both sides of the highway although at a slow pace at a few places.
He advised the commuters and drivers to follow traffic advisories issued from time to time by the Traffic Police Headquarters.
Meanwhile, the Traffic Department issued a fresh advisory for Monday stating that subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs and heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply on both sides of the Highway.
The Traffic Police again advised commuters, passengers, and LMV vehicle operators not to undertake journeys on the highway during the night due to apprehension of shooting stones between the Ramban and Banihal sectors.
“For safe and secure journeys, prefer journeys on the highway during day time only,” the Traffic Police said.
Meanwhile, the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road was closed due to snow accumulation.
The traffic on the road would be released after getting a green signal from concerned road maintenance agencies.
The work on the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Express remained suspended while traffic was also suspended during nights between Bari Brahmna and Raya Morh stretch of the highway.
The vehicular traffic movement would remain suspended for a few hours during nights between Bari Brahmna and Raya Morh between Jammu and Samba districts on the highway.
Traffic authorities said traffic would remain suspended between Bari Brahmna and Raya Morh on Monday and Tuesday nights from 11:30 pm to 4 am.
Officials said that on the request of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), District Magistrate Samba, Rajesh Sharma vide Order No DMS/JC/2024-25/3784-88 dated December 8, 2024, accorded permission to NHAI for girder launching activity at Chinage (503+399) in front of Mount Litera School Tarore on Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Express Project due to which traffic would remain suspended between Bari Brahmna and Raya Morh on Monday and Tuesday nights from 11:30 pm to 4 am.
Given traffic halting on this stretch of the highway, commuters have been advised to plan their journey accordingly. However, officials said that traffic diversion would be placed on some routes to facilitate the people and an advisory in this regard would be issued separately.
