Srinagar, Nov 6: The ruling National Conference (NC) Member Parliament (MP) Agha Syed Ruhullah Wednesday said that the struggle to restore the special status of the J&K will not end at passing the resolution in the Assembly.
Referring to the Assembly session where a resolution was passed for restoration of the special status of J&K, Ruhulla said this is the door and this is the way to that struggle.
“Today, the road has been opened,” he said.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the Assembly session, he said that he also tried in his humble capacity in the Parliament and it was very important to convey the same message through the assembly.
“So, what we said in the Parliament and through the Assembly today, this combined with the consolidated efforts of the state, or in a strong way, the message that should have been conveyed, has been fulfilled. Now we have to take our struggle forward,” he said
On the allegation of BJP legislators that the Speaker was impartial in this matter and the mandate of Jammu was not met, Ruhulla said that the majority of Jammu and Kashmir has a mandate.
“BJP is not Jammu. Many members of the Jammu region are non-BJP members. Similarly, the members who have come from Kashmir also represent J&K. So, the majority is in favour of this resolution and in favour of this sentiment,” he said.
Ruhullah said that the BJP should refrain from preaching how a Speaker should work.
“We know how the Speaker behaves in the Parliament. So, it is better for BJP people not to preach how the Speaker has to work,” he said.
Ruhullah said that the party had made its commitment to people during the election campaign that the first business of the Assembly will be moving a resolution to restore the special status of J&K.
He said that the party leadership also mentioned it in the manifesto.
“The Assembly started on Monday and the Speaker was elected. On Tuesday, there were obituary references. Today was the first day of routine business and as promised the first business of this Assembly was the resolution for restoration of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir,” Ruhulla said.
Earlier, he was seen seated in the gallery of the J&K Assembly as the resolution for the restoration of special status was passed.
“I am thankful to this government, to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, to all my colleagues, and to my organisation, who fulfilled the promise,” Ruhulla said.
About his expectations from the office of the LG, Ruhulla said: “For me, in a democracy, the LG’s office has no meaning.”
