SKUAST-K launches 2 MSME-sponsored fisheries training programmes

Srinagar, Oct 18: The Division of Aquatic Animal Health Management (AAHM) at the Faculty of Fisheries, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), has inaugurated two six-week training programmes sponsored by the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India.

The programmes, titled “Aquaculture Production Rates vs Best Health Management Practices” and “Fish Disease Diagnosis & Health Management in Cold Water Fisheries,” commenced on October 15 and 17, 2024, respectively. The inaugural sessions were held at Panchayat Ghar, Rangil, and Panchayat Ghar, Shuhama, in Ganderbal district. Each program has enrolled approximately 25 participants from diverse backgrounds.

Dr Asifa Wali, Assistant Professor and Programme Coordinator, provided an overview of the trainings, highlighting the importance of health management in the fisheries sector. She acknowledged the support of SKUAST-K’s leadership, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Director of Planning and Monitoring Prof Haroon Naik, Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries Prof. Farooz Ahmad Bhat, and Head of the AAHM Division Prof. Feroz A. Shah.
