SNSS-K celebrates successful completion of 100-day swimming course

Srinagar, Sep 20: The Swim N Survival Society-Kashmir (SNSS-K) marked a significant milestone as its President, Shakeel Ahmed, awarded mementoes and certificates to over 40 participants at the Water Sports Centre, Nigeen. The ceremony celebrated the completion of a 100-day swimming course, organized in collaboration with the Department of Tourism Kashmir.

A statement said that the programme, which commenced in June, was tailored for non-swimmers and garnered enthusiastic participation from the local community, especially children. Many participants, accompanied by their parents, consistently attended the daily morning coaching sessions.

Water sports expert Riyaz Wani addressed the gathering, emphasizing the critical importance of swimming skills, particularly in flood-prone regions. He recalled the crucial role of swimmers during the Valley’s 2014 floods, where those with proficient swimming abilities actively participated in rescue operations. Wani also voiced concerns about the dangerous practice of youth swimming in open waters without proper safety equipment.

The comprehensive training programme was led by senior technical experts Riyaz Wani, Yasir Makhdoomi, and Zahid Iqbal, along with other dedicated volunteers. Their efforts ensured that participants acquired essential swimming and water survival skills.

The event was also attended by notable contributors to the camp’s success, including Mudasir Chasti, Owais Rashid, Nasir Majeed, Moonis Majid, and Mohsin Shah.

This initiative by SNSS-K not only promotes water safety but also equips local residents with vital life-saving skills, contributing to community resilience in the face of potential water-related emergencies.
