According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), WWE, based in Stamford, has applied for trademarks on two new superstar names. The filing specifies that WWE plans to utilize these trademarks for various “entertainment” purposes.
On Tuesday, September 10th, WWE officially filed trademarks for the names ‘Niko Vance’ and ‘Kali Armstrong’ with the USPTO. These names are associated with upcoming talents, former track star Destinee Brown and Niko Vance. Both wrestlers made appearances during the September 10th NXT Level Up tapings. The filings indicate that WWE is investing in their future by securing rights to these names.
The trademark applications include the following descriptions: “Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network.”
It also covers services like, “Providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members.”
The filing further adds that WWE plans to offer fan-centered services by, “Organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; [and] online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment.”Through these trademark filings, WWE appears to be preparing to heavily market and promote these rising stars within its vast entertainment ecosystem.
