In a landmark stride for the Digital India mission, the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has enabled the seamless integration of nearly 2,000 government services across all 36 States and Union Territories on the DigiLocker and e-District platforms.
This nationwide rollout means that citizens can now access certificates, welfare schemes, utility payments, and a wide range of citizen-centric services from anywhere in the country—ushering in a new era of convenience, transparency, and efficiency in public service delivery.
A Giant Leap for Digital India
The integration is being seen as a critical milestone in the government’s push for paperless, mobile-first governance. Officials said the development will not only simplify everyday interactions between citizens and the government but also strengthen India’s digital public infrastructure.
“By bringing almost 2,000 services under a unified digital framework, NeGD has reaffirmed its role as a backbone of Digital India,” a senior MeitY official noted. “This is about empowering citizens with trust, ease of access, and inclusivity.”
DigiLocker, already regarded as a pioneering element of India Stack, has been instrumental in overcoming long-standing challenges of interoperability, security, and scalability. Its trusted framework is helping millions of Indians store and share official documents digitally, eliminating the need for physical paperwork.
State-Wise Adoption
Among states, Maharashtra has emerged as the frontrunner, offering citizens access to 254 services—the highest in the country. Delhi follows with 123 services, while Karnataka (113), Assam (102), and Uttar Pradesh (86) round out the top five.
Other states are also rapidly expanding their service portfolios. Kerala and Jammu & Kashmir currently provide 77 services each, Andhra Pradesh offers 76, and Gujarat has integrated 64. Tamil Nadu and Goa have 63 each, while Haryana (60) and Himachal Pradesh (58) are also contributing significantly to the national tally.
Overall, 1,938 services have been made digitally accessible so far, with more expected to come online in the months ahead.
Looking Ahead: AI-Driven Expansion
NeGD has laid out ambitious plans to expand this ecosystem further by integrating emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence, into governance. Officials confirmed that AI-driven approaches would soon be deployed to enhance inclusivity, personalise citizen engagement, and ensure improved last-mile delivery of services.
Alongside technological innovation, the government plans to conduct structured training programmes and awareness workshops at the state level to ensure smooth adoption and citizen awareness.
About NeGD
Established in 2009 as an Independent Business Division under the Digital India Corporation, NeGD has played a pivotal role in steering e-Governance projects across India. Its portfolio includes managing national platforms such as DigiLocker, UMANG, OpenForge, API Setu, myScheme, India Stack Global, Meri Pehchaan, and others.
Over the years, NeGD has become central to India’s digital governance architecture—providing project management, technical support, and policy guidance to both central and state governments.
A Step Towards Digital Inclusion
The latest achievement, officials stressed, is more than a technological upgrade—it is a step towards inclusion. By ensuring that citizens from metropolitan cities to remote districts can access critical services through their phones and computers, the government is attempting to bridge gaps of geography, bureaucracy, and access.
As India positions itself as a leader in digital governance, this integration under DigiLocker and e-District platforms represents not just a milestone for Digital India, but also a model for digital public infrastructure globally.
