Jammu, Nov 12: Police Tuesday arrested two peddlers in a case of firing incident and recovered a pistol along with 16 live cartridges and 18 grams of heroin-like substance from them, in Jammu.
A car used in the crime has also been seized.
“On November 3, a written complaint was lodged at Police Station Nowabad by Shaista, wife of Mohd Khalil, resident of Gujjar Nagar Jammu stating that her son Imran Khalil, 25, was fired upon by some unknown persons at Nikki Tawi area during the intervening night of November 2 and 3, 2024 with the intention to kill him. As per the complaint, he was seriously injured and presently admitted in GMC, Jammu,” Police said.
Immediately, a case FIR No 168/2024 U/S 109(2)/3(5) BNS, 3/25 A/Act was registered at Police Station Nowabad and police swung into action.
“Different Police parties were constituted to solve the case which was totally blind in nature. Human and technical surveillance was started immediately and CCTV analysis of around 100 cameras was done. All sources were activated. Around 20 suspects were rounded up for questioning. Human intelligence was generated,” Police said.
Police officials said that on November 10, 2024, a special checkpoint was set near T-chowk on the 4th Tawi bridge. “During the naka, a black coloured Creta car, bearing registration No JK02BX-3022 coming from Nikki Tawi side, was stopped for checking. Two persons were travelling in the car and during their personal search around 18 gms of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession,” Police said.
They identified themselves as Muhammad Hussain Khatana alias Raju, son of Haji Ghulam Muhammad Khatana, resident of Kashwan, Kokernag of district Anantnag, at present Ragoora, Jammu and Muhammad Ramzan, son of Muhammad Din, resident of Ragoora, Jammu.
In this regard, a separate case FIR No 174/2024 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Nowabad and an investigation was initiated.
“During sustained questioning, both of them admitted their guilt in the firing incident and on their disclosure a pistol along with 16 live cartridges has been recovered and a car used in the crime has been seized,” Police said.
According to the Police, some misunderstanding was going on between Muhammad Hussain Khatana and one drug smuggler regarding some payment issues.
“A day before the firing incident, a drug smuggler slapped Muhammad Hussain Khatana in the Nikki Tawi area. Infuriated by the slapping incident, Muhammad Hussain Khatana made up his mind to teach him a lesson and the victim was hit. Muhammad Hussain thought that the victim was giving information regarding movement to the drug smuggler,” Police said.
“Nine cases pertaining to bovine smuggling, NDPS and attempt to murder have already been registered against Muhammad Ramzan in different Police Stations of Jammu province and he was evading his arrest in an attempt to murder case already registered at Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu of district Jammu,” Police said.
Police teams led by SHO Nowabad Inspector Deepak Pathania assisted by PSI Darshan Singh, Incharge Police Post Canal Road and PSI Aziz Tariq made the arrests and recoveries.
