13 residents of Badhaal in quarantine return to homes

Rajouri, Feb 19: Thirteen residents from the Badhaal area, who were in quarantine at the Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri, were discharged and sent back to their homes today.

They were the last villagers from Badhaal who were left in quarantine. Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Rajouri, Iftkhar Ahmed was present during the event organised to release the people while GMC Principal, Dr A S Bhatia, Head of Department (HoD) Medicines, Dr Jameel Khan, and Deputy Medical Superintendent D. Javed Iqbal were also present.

This development comes amid the ongoing investigation into the mysterious deaths of 17 people from the Badhaal village in Rajouri district. The authorities took precautionary measures, including quarantining individuals who came into contact with the deceased.

Earlier, 32 residents of Badhaal were discharged from GMC Rajouri five days ago while 350 people were discharged eight days ago from two quarantine facilities established in two government buildings in Rajouri town.

MLA Rajouri Iftkhar Ahmed while terming the moment as another momentous day said that all the people from Badhaal have now been shifted to their native village and life is returning to normalcy there.

Principal GMC Rajouri, Dr AS Bhatia said that all the people in quarantine facility at GMC Rajouri have returned to their families and the people who returned on Wednesday belonged to the families who have lost 17 members.

He said that the people have been released as per SOPs devised by PGI Chandigarh and AIIMS New Delhi while a team of doctors from GMC Rajouri will be sent to Badhaal village after seven days to examine the people.

Pertinent to mention here that 17 mysterious deaths have occurred in Badhaal village since December 7. A high level investigation is going on to ascertain the causes of deaths.
